YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2016



The 6-day “Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2016 – Part of the MetLifeBWF World Superseries”, sanctioned by Badminton World Federation and hosted by Hong Kong Badminton Association, will be held during 22-27 November at Hong Kong Coliseum. The event this year is the 12th consecutive year sponsored by Yonex-Sunrise with total grand prize money of US$400,000 and one of the MetLifeBWF World Superseries. We are delighted that the “YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open 2016 - Part of the MetLife BWF World Superseries” has been recognised as an “M” Mark event that helps enhance the image of Hong Kong as Asia’s sports event capital. The “M” Mark awarded by the Major Sports Events Committee, symbolising intense, spectacular and signature event in the territory sports calendar.
 
Mr. Tong Wai Lun BBS MH JP, HKBA Chairman, expressed that the competition entry is overwhelming with 316 players from 25 countries and regions, including the gold medalists of the five events at the Rio Olympics, namely Chen Long, Fu Haifeng, and Zhang Nan from China; Carolina Marin from Spain; Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahashi from Japan; Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir from Indonesia.  Other top players include China’s Tian Houwei, Chai Biao, Hong Wei;   Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei, Goh V Shem, Tan Wee Kiong; Korea’s Son Wan Ho, Jung Kyung Eun, Shin Seung Chen; Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen, Christinna Pedersen, Kamilla Rytter Juhl; India’s Sindhu P.V.; Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara; Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen, Tai Tzu Ying; and Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon.
 
Hong Kong Badminton Team will also send all their elite players to attend, including Ng Ka Long who recently won the bronze medal at the French Superseries; Cheung Ngan Yi who won a bronze medal for the first time in last month’s Denmark Superseries;  the new mixed doubles duo of Tse Ying Suet and Tang Chun Man who just won the championship at the Chinese Taipei Master. Other players include Hu Yun, Wong Wing Ki, Wei Nan, Yip Pui Yin, Poon Lok Yan, Lee Chun Hei and Chau Hoi Wah. This will surely attract Hong Kong badminton fans to watch the games with global attention.
 
Besides, the webpage for this tournament: www.hkopenbadminton.org has been activated and updated news can be found there.  Tickets will be available for sale from 3 November at URBTIX. Entry tickets to qualifying rounds and round of 32 for Mixed Doubles on 22 November is free for distribution. Interested parties can send self-address envelope with stamp to HKBA office.  Four tickets are distributed for each person while tickets are available.
