Information of the event    

The 7-day "Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open Badminton Super Series 2009", duly sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), shall be held by Hong Kong Badminton Association Limited between 9 and 15 November, at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Wanchai, Hong Kong. This event has been consecutively sponsored by Yonex-Sunrise for 5 years. It is one of the BWF's Super Series events with a grand prize of US$250,000.

The event consists of men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. It adopts the knock-out system. For main draws, there are 32 players in men's and women's singles, 32 teams in men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles. For the qualifying rounds, there are 16 players in singles and 16 teams in doubles. It was estimated to have more than 200 world top players from more than 20 countries and regions to attend.
